Students of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Education came together to commemorate their friends who lost their lives in the earthquake on February 6. Within the scope of Community Service Applications course, the commemoration event was carried out with the 'Trailblazers Forest' sapling planting project of Project Advisor Dr. Lecturer Gülcan Mıhladız Turhan and 2nd year students of Science Teaching. In the event, students organized an emotional ceremony to commemorate 1st year student of Science Teaching, Merve Aslan, 2nd year student Merve Buse Bastacı, and 3rd year student of Social Studies Teaching, Zelal Durmaz.

The emotional ceremony was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar and his administration, Dean of the Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Firdevs Savi Çakar, academic and administrative staff, and many students. Although the time passed since the earthquake did not alleviate the pain of the incident, the students came together with the power of being together and remembered their lost friends. The students revived their lives and memories of their lost friends by remembering them with photos. During the speeches describing their friends, the students, who had emotional moments, also supported each other by hugging.

After the ceremony, sapling planting was carried out for the 'Trailblazers Forest'. Many saplings were planted on behalf of all students who lost their lives in the earthquake on February 6 while studying at our university, with the message that each sapling has a meaning and life continues. After the sapling planting, a meal was served to the students by the Turkish Red Crescent.

Call for Solidarity and Progress from Rector Dalgar

Students of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University continue to alleviate their pain and keep the memory of their lost friends alive by acting together. These kinds of events not only enable them to come together and be in solidarity, but also show that they do not forget their lost loved ones. Speaking after the commemoration ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar said, “We gathered for our students who lost their lives in the February 6 earthquake, one of the biggest disasters of today. Our students, our teacher candidates, organized a program in their memory and we are creating a memorial forest that will keep their memories alive. I thank our students for this program they have carried out in memory of their friends. I think it is a behavior that suits Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. I pray for mercy from Allah for all our lost citizens. The Republic of Turkey is a very large state, a state that knows how to unite in difficult times. We have overcome all difficult times in this way. We are trying to overcome the February 6 Earthquake in this way. What we need to do is to work harder than ever. We need to work more by worrying more for our country, producing more.”
