History
Burdur Faculty of Education started its education in the 1965-1966 academic year as "Burdur Girls' Teacher School", and was transformed into a two-year Education Institute in the 1977-1978 academic year. On July 20, 1982, it was affiliated to Akdeniz University by the Decree Law No. 41, and from the 1989-1990 academic year, it took the name of School of Education. In 1992, it was affiliated to Süleyman Demirel University, which was established by Law No. 3837, and took the name Burdur Faculty of Education.
Until 1993, only education was given in the Department of Classroom Teaching in our faculty, and from the 1993-1994 academic year, the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Music Education and Art-Work Education Main Science Branches were opened and students started to be admitted with a special talent exam.
In the 1995-1996 academic year, in addition to the existing departments, Turkish Language and Literature Education and Social Sciences Education (History Education Main Science Branch, Geography Education Main Science Branch) Departments and from the 1997-1998 academic year, the Preschool Education Department started education.
Within the scope of the YÖK / World Bank National Education Development Project, the departments and main science branches of our faculty were restructured from the spring semester of the 1997-1998 academic year. From the 2005-2006 academic year, the Computer and Instructional Technologies Teaching (BÖTE) Main Science Branch and the Primary School Mathematics Teaching Main Science Branch were opened in our faculty. Undergraduate education in the Guidance and Psychological Counseling Main Science Branch started in the 2009-2010 academic year. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the Special Education Teaching Department undergraduate program started to admit students. The departments and main science branches in our faculty are listed below.

Our faculty's Guidance and Psychological Counseling and Preschool Teaching Undergraduate Programs have been accredited by the Teacher Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association (EPDAD) for 3 years until 06.04.2025. In the 2022-2023 period, our English Teaching, Classroom Teaching, Primary School Mathematics Teaching Undergraduate Programs were also accredited by EPDAD for 3 years until 01.05.2026, and the accreditation process for our Music Education, Social Studies Education, Turkish Education and Science Education programs continues in the 2023-2024 period.
Our faculty attaches great importance to orientation trainings, which it sees as the integrator of effective teaching. In this context, orientation training is given to our newly joined students to ensure their adaptation to our faculty and the environment.
In addition to teaching activities in our faculty, many scientific activities as well as art and cultural activities are organized. With these activities, it is aimed to contribute to both the academic and career development of our students and to gain 21st century teaching competencies. Within the scope of social and cultural activities, there are 112 student communities in our university, and our students' participation in these communities is supported and opportunities are provided by providing spaces. Our students can present the gains they have obtained in theoretical and practical courses in many activities designed according to the student-centered learning approach. Education, culture and art activities in our faculty are carried out online and face-to-face with the participation of our faculty members and students under the coordination of our faculty. All activities and events are shared with both our students and the public from our university and faculty web pages, our university's maküsosyal application and social media accounts. In addition, within the framework of Socrates/Erasmus, Farabi exchange programs, information studies are carried out in our faculty to increase student and faculty mobility in domestic and foreign education.
As of 2023, there are 1568 female, 799 male, a total of 2367 students studying in our faculty. As academic staff; There are 39 professors, 21 associate professors, 41 doctorate faculty members, 12 lecturers, 9 research assistants, a total of 122 faculty members and 10 administrative staff.
